The Dark Knight Rises Breaks Box Office Record

Warner Brothers’ The Dark Knight Rises took the record this weekend for the highest grossing 2D film in history. Over a three day period, Christopher Nolan’s trilogy finale raked in a little over 160 million dollars, a cool 2.5 million more than The Dark Knight made during its opening weekend according to Box Office Mojo. This puts TDKR as the third highest grossing film for a weekend ever, only behind Marvel’s The Avengers and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, both of which were released in 3D, and therefore higher ticket prices. Congratulations to Nolan and company on the huge opening weekend success!

Warner Brothers has also made note today via the Hollywood Reporter that they will be donating a substantial amount of money to the victims of the tragic Aurora, Colorado shooting that occurred at a midnight screening of the film.
