Whedon to Return for Avengers 2, TV Show [Updated!]

During an earnings call this week, Disney announced that The Avengers director Joss Whedon will return as both writer and director for the sequel to the summer smash hit. In addition, Disney also announced that Whedon will be taking the helm for an Avengers television series that will air on ABC. So far no details have been made about the television series, with the only speculation being that the series will somehow tie into the films.
Marvel as well released a statement on Tuesday that “Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”

There was never any doubt in my mind to Whedon not directing this. Glad it’s happening.
