Believer Double Red Ale – Ninkasi Brewing Co.

Believer Double Red Ale is a brew from Ninkasi Brewing Company located in the lovely Eugene, Oregon. Containing 6.9% ABV.
Appearance: Very pretty dark ruby red, with a brown tint. Does not pour very fizzy, but sprouts a finger-sized head that does not stick around for very long. Almost no lacing and overall does not look too bubbly.
Smell: Does not favor the hoppy scent nor the malty. Decently balanced, but has a very warm presence in the nose. Has a nice sweet caramel hint, but I could not help but notice the presence of roasted, wet wood as well.
Mouthfeel: The carbonation hits the tongue hard and rapid, but dissipates before you know it. Leaves the mouth pretty damn dry.
Taste: Enters with that caramel malt taste, not too dominant, but pleasant. By the time it leaves, you are left with just a hoppy, piney, lemon finish on the back of the tongue. A very natural grassy essence. I am sad to say there is not much in between. Sort of bland. Alcohol was very much present.
Overall: Very average. I am genuinely fond of red ale’s, so coming into this I was excited, but this specific brew failed to wow me. It simply did not have enough flavors while in my mouth. It was watery and did not give my tongue an experience. By no means was this a bad beer, just very forgettable and sadly average.
